Ypres is one of the most loved rallies on the international calendar, but it has never been included on the World Rally Championship schedule. That all changes in 2020, as it steps in to replace the canceled Rally Japan as the WRC’s final round.
The event is notorious for its deep and unforgiving cuts, but running just five weeks before Christmas as opposed to its usual early summer date, the characteristics of the rally could be very different this year. With the potential for much wetter weather, the stages could become a mud bath almost immediately.
This means running first on the road should be an advantage in what is likely to be an epic and unique title decider in the Flanders fields.
