Gus Greensmith will remain in hospital overnight following his crash on Rally Italy Sardinia, but is said to have no major injuries.
Greensmith – winner of the last WRC2 event in Portugal – left the road on the sixth stage of this year’s Sardinian event, causing the stage to be red-flagged.
Co-driver Jonas Andersson was unharmed in the crash, but Greensmith was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he will stay the night as a precuation.
A statement read: “Gus had a high speed impact on SS6 of Rally d’Italia. Following the crash he was conscious and responsive but was taken to hospital for checks and was found to have no major injuries.
“Co-driver Jonas Andersson walked away unharmed.
“Gus will remain in Olbia hospital overnight for observation and pain relief. Gus will reassess his next steps with his medical team tomorrow.
“Thanks to all the medical tram, organizers, marshals and Toksport.”
Greensmith’s incident doesn’t affect his title challenge as he hadn’t registered for WRC2 points in Italy.
