Dear reader, so we meet again. And I’m afraid I’ve accidentally developed a little bit of a theme.
A growing obsession with pictures of unsuccessful rally cars.
Last week, when selecting our ‘picture of the week’ from the extensive Girardo & Co. Archive, I shared a wonderful snap of Seat’s Cordoba WRC.
Scaling such heights with an amazing car means I’m not even going to try and top my own effort this week, but I have felt inspired to share another ultimately flawed World Rally Car with you.
The Citroën C3 WRC.
This time, it’s less about the beauty of the car itself. Beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder, but for me at least Citroën’s final top-line rally car wasn’t a stunner.
Instead, it’s the livery.
It’s a fairly common opinion that Red Bull-based color schemes never tend to miss when it comes to rally cars. But, hear me out here, I think the 2019 C3 WRC is the best looking Red Bull-covered rally car ever.
There, I said it.
While I scavenge my apartment for material to build a shelter to protect myself in the comments, just take another look at the color combination on Sébastien Ogier’s machine.
The combination of red, blue and yellow just works a treat to my eyes. And the matte finish really helps the whole thing pop off.
Perhaps it’s because in the two years prior to Ogier’s ultimately short-lived arrival, the Citroën’s livery was fairly tame – so in contrast this felt like a huge step up.
Maybe it’s also recency bias, I don’t know. But for whatever reason, this really does it for me.
Especially as pictured in Tarmac trim, because we all know rally cars look better in Tarmac trim…
As I find reinforcements for my shelter after that latest controversial comment, why not head over to Girardo’s archive and purchase a picture of your favorite Red Bull-liveried rally car?
And then tell me how wrong I am in the comments.
