The FIA announced today that the World Rallycross Championship’s top class of cars, RX1e, will not compete in next week’s round at Estering in Germany as fire investigations continue.
It will be the third round in a row to not feature any of the electric RX1e cars racing, following the fire that consumed Special One Racing’s garage and vehicles in the Lydden Hill paddock last month. That led to the RX1e action being cancelled for that weekend, and also for last weekend’s round at Mettet in Belgium.
“The investigation into the cause of the fire during World RX of United Kingdom at Lydden Hill on 21 July is ongoing,” read the FIA’s statement.
“Whilst a significant amount of data and information has been gathered and analyzed, the FIA has decided – on the grounds of safety and in order for the investigation to continue without delay – to postpone the RX1e round at Germany’s Estering, originally scheduled for 19-20 August.
“World RX of Germany will still go ahead with the concluding rounds of RX2e, Euro RX1 and Euro RX3, where all three titles will be decided.”

The European Rallycross Championship uses the internal combustion cars that were part of World RX’s RX1 class prior to 2022 when the top tier switched to electric vehicles.
Following the upcoming round, there is a break of almost two months before World RX is back in action – at least for the RX1e drivers as it currently stands – at Killarney in South Africa. Their season concludes in Hong Kong in three months’ time.
