Lia Block will drive her late father Ken’s Ford Escort ‘Cossie V2’ at this weekend’s Lake Superior Performance Memorial Rally.
Block, who has been confirmed as the American Rally Association Open 2WD champion, steps up from a Subaru BRZ alongside co-driver Rhianon Gelsomino.
It will be the first time the 17-year-old has ever driven a four-wheel-drive rally car in competition.
“I won the championship two races early so I was 16 when I won the championship, so I am officially the youngest ever to win an ARA championship in the US,” Block said in an Instagram video.
“Because of that, I get to do the last rally in my dad’s Ford Escort Cossie V2.
“This is my first time racing an all-wheel-drive car. I’m super excited to race this at LSPR this year – it’s going to be really fun.
“I am just super stoked to be able to race this car.”
It’s not the first time Lia has driven one of her dad’s cars, as she drove the Porsche 911 ‘Hoonipigasus’ as a tribute run at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb back in June.
Ken developed the ‘Cossie V2’ after the first version was lost to a fire on the 2018 New England Forest Rally, and took it all over the world to events like Whangarei in New Zealand, Donegal in Ireland, Rallylegend in San Marino and México in the World Rally Championship as part of the ‘Cossie World Tour.’
