Oliver Solberg has retired from the lead of the Roger Albert Clark Rally.
He and co-driver Elliott Edmondson encountered driveshaft issues on the 28th of 33 stages.
Solberg was one of several World Rally Championship stars competing on the five-day historic rally which traverses Wales, Scotland and England.
Taking the lead of the event on the second in his father Petter’s Ford Escort Mk2, the Swede built up a lead of over five minutes after closest rivals Kris Meeke and Osian Pryce both retired with mechanical problems.
But Solberg failed to make the end of Sunday’s final stage, Harwood 2, meaning three-time R.A.C. winner Marty McCormack now leads the Lancia Stratos of Seb Perez by 4m57s with just one leg to go.
