Your chance to ride shotgun in a Group B car

DirtFish has teamed up with Velocity Invitational to offer 16 people the ride of a lifetime

They were deemed too fast to race. Formula 1, it was said, had come to the forests. The World Rally Championship’s most fêted cars created the legend that was Group B. For four decades that legend has grown around these mythical, magical machines.

Until now, you could look, but not touch. You could dream, but not co-drive. Until now.

DirtFish and Velocity Invitational have partnered to offer 16 people the opportunity of a lifetime.

If you’re aged 18 and over, you can relish in your moment co-driving one of these extraordinary machines. DirtFish owner Steve Rimmer is taking his Audi quattro E2, Peugeot 205 T16 E2 and Lancia 037 and Delta S4 to California for the Sonoma event this weekend.

Each one of those cars remains in precisely the same specification it was when it left the factory four decades ago. Nothing has changed in the cockpit and the 500-plus horses haven’t aged a day. They’re waiting to show you what made Group B the most special era in the history of the sport.

How fast? Christian Geistdörfer is a man who knows. Geistdörfer was co-driver to Walter Röhrl, they won two world titles together. When Group B was coming to an end, the Germans tested Audi’s quattro E2 replacement, the more docile Group A 200 quattro.

The reaction?

“It was like stepping off a rocket and onto a bicycle.”

As ever, Steve Rimmer is delighted to see his cars doing what they do best.

“What’s the point of keeping these machines locked away?” said Steve. “Just hearing them being started transports you back to the mid-80s, to a time when rallying truly rivalled Formula 1 in terms of popularity. That’s why everybody remembers these cars. I’m delighted to be able to offer rally fans the opportunity to experience what many see as the very best of our sport.”

The price of $2,999 per ride includes a three-day admission pass to Velocity Invitational (October 4-6) and access to the rally driver meet and greet in a private grandstand suite on the day of your ride.

If dirt’s more your thing, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. How about a flat-out thrill ride aboard one of our awesome and always sideways rally school BRZs?
