There’s a growing feeling within the World Rally Championship that Thierry Neuville will finally end his wait to become drivers’ champion in 2024.
But until it’s done, nothing is certain.
So who is his biggest threat? Ott Tänak, Sébastien Ogier or himself?
Of the pretenders, the numbers say Tänak. He’s the only driver within a maximum score of Neuville in the championship table, and is 12 points up the road from Ogier. But Tänak has the same equipment as Neuville, which essentially gives him fewer tools to overturn the deficit.
Ogier may have told the world he feels his title chances are now extinct, but that’s not going to stop him driving flat out to achieve the improbable. He’s been extremely fast of late, and constantly quick on Tarmac so perhaps is more of a curveball for Neuville to deal with?
