Is the Dakar Loeb’s one weakness?

Sébastien Loeb so rarely crashed in WRC, yet is out of the Dakar again for another year. We discuss on SPIN, The Rally Pod

Sebastien Loeb

In rallying you must always expect the unexpected, but there was nothing truly more unexpected than Sébastien Loeb crashing his Citroën in the World Rally Championship.

Loeb was as cool as a cucumber. Always. Of course he could win rallies with his right foot and he could win them with his head, but what he so rarely, ever did was throw them away through accidents.

Yet of the nine Dakar rallies he has now started, he’s rolled in four of them.

For a driver who’s tasted success in all other motorsport disciplines beyond rallying including touring cars, rallycross and even the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is Dakar the event that may ultimately get away from Loeb?

David Evans joins Luke Barry on this week’s SPIN, The Rally Pod to dissect Loeb’s troubles on the Dakar, and asks how the WRC can capture some of the spirit the World Rally-Raid Championship manages to do with this classic off-road racing event.
