Transforming rally theory to results in the PNW

Six of DirtFish's rally instructors were competing at the Tour de Forest Rally in Shelton, WA

Rallying isn’t just what we teach, it’s what we live.

Want the proof? Six of our talented employees were out there on the special stages themselves last weekend, swapping teaching techniques for stage times in pursuit of gravel glory at the Tour de Forest Rally.

While some experienced the cruel side of rallying, others starred with standout class and overall results.

Not least Sean Edwards and Jack Ramie, who teamed up in a Volvo 242 Turbo to claim a fantastic fifth overall.

“I took my own Volvo, Karen, apart and missed last year’s TDF, so enter my mentor, friend and engine builder Robert Culbertson,” Sean smiled.

“He got tired of hearing me complain about missing rallies, so offered to let me use his car for Oregon Trail Rally earlier this year as well as TDF at the weekend.

The Vovo 242 might be shaped like a brick but in the hands of Sean Edwards and Jack Ramie, it was rapid on Tour de Forest

“Robert has re-prepared the car for L2WD – it now has the original 8V redblock, with a four-speed gearbox. Turns out the car’s pretty reliable once you get rid of the turbocharger!”

Overcoming visibility issues and avoiding the tempting cuts, Sean and Jack secured a 40.2 second class win as well as that overall top-five position – despite not changing tires all day!

“We added a new note to my glossary: commit. That’s a lot of fun to drive to,” Sean grinned.

“It’s usually used on something you can’t see the other side of. I’m now really excited for the Mike Nagle Rally next month!”

Not far behind the Volvo was Brian Miller, who muscled his BMW 325i E36 to 10th overall and a dominant O2WD class win.

One year on from his stage rallying return, Jack Harrison and good friend / co-driver Eric Schofhauser brought their Subaru Impreza RS home inside the top-15 after another strong day taming the gravel.

Michelle Miller, meanwhile, demonstrated the variety of driving skills throughout the DirtFish team, steering a Scion FR-S to 16th overall alongside co-driver Amy Seaman.

Michael Honn had been closing on a top-10 finish in his Subaru but unfortunately failed to emerge from stage three. Also in action, DirtFish Women in Motorsport Driver Michele Abbate started just her second ever rally alongside co-driver Leah Brisset, but her day ended early with mechanical failure.

The biggest takeaway, however, was the unwavering passion for rally displayed by the entire DirtFish Rally School squad.

Working every day to teach you how to improve your skills, they’re just as eager to pull the helmet on and get stuck in when the weekend arrives.

Sean’s top-five finish was the headline result, but the dedication to the sport is what makes this team the best in the business.
