Hyundai Motorsport has revealed its latest offering, the i20 N Rally2 – the successor to its i20 R5.

Based on the latest i20 road car, the i20 N Rally2 will begin testing later this month before an expected homologation date next summer. The car is new in all but the five-speed gearbox, which is carried over from its predecessor.

Hyundai Motorsport team principal Andrea Adamo said: “Every area of the new car is an improvement over the original thanks to the design work completed by our dedicated team of designers and engineers.

“Our focus is now on testing the car to further develop each aspect of the design to improve both performance and reliability, while also ensuring that the handling enables each and every one of our customers to achieve the best possible results when they can start competing with the i20 N Rally2 next year.”

It was Adamo himself who undertook the development of the original i20 R5 when he took on Hyundai Customer Racing five years ago. He praised the continued development of the department since he moved on to head-up Hyundai Motorsport at the start of 2019.

He added: “The Hyundai i20 R5 was the first car from Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, and the new i20 N Rally2 shows how far we have come in the five years since the foundation of the department.”

The i20 N Rally2 will be sold to customers in national and continental championships across the globe, as well for use in World Rally Championship-3.
