The Croatia Rally organizer has revealed how it intends to pay tribute to Craig Breen who lost his life in a testing accident last Thursday.
Breen was meant to compete in Croatia this week for Hyundai Motorsport, but succumbed to injuries sustained in testing for the event.
Co-driver James Fulton was unharmed.
After contemplating whether it should compete in Croatia at all, Hyundai will instead run just two cars for Thierry Neuville and Esapekka Lappi.
The pair’s i20 N Rally1s will be decked in a special livery representing the Irish flag in tribute to their late team-mate.
However the event will be doing its bit to remember the 33-year-old too.
All 56 of the competing crews will carry a black sticker on the door panel of their car as a mark of respect.
Members of the World Rally Championship family – teams, crews, organizers, officials and media – who wish to pay tribute will be asked to gather at the big screen located in the Zagreb service park at 4.30pm on Thursday afternoon too for a moment of silence and a group photo.
That will proceed another moment of silence at the ceremonial start later that evening where a tribute video will play at the time Breen was due to cross the start ramp.
There’ll also be a moment of silence held at the end of the rally on Sunday during the live TV broadcast at the podium.
Members of the service park are also expected to wear black armbands.
Breen’s funeral was held on Tuesday near his family home in Ferrybank, Ireland.
Several members of the WRC family were in attendance including Fulton, Paul Nagle, members of the media and the driver who was sharing the third Hyundai with Breen this season, Dani Sordo.
Crews who are competing this weekend visited the Breen family home earlier this week to pay their respects to their lost colleague and friend.
