Lia Block will drive the Porsche 911 Hoonipigasus her late father Ken had developed for the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb at this year’s event.
The all-wheel-drive, 1400bhp machine had been created with the sole aim of breaking the Pikes Peak record, currently held by Romain Dumas and the Volkswagen ID.R.
But during the practice day last year the car’s engine failed and Ken was unable to take the start of the event.
This year, Ken’s 16-year-old daughter Lia will pay tribute to her dad – who passed away in January – by giving the car the run up the famous hillclimb it always should have had; albeit not against the clock.
“This June I’ll be making a tribute run at the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in the Hoonipigasus,” said Lia in a social media announcement.
“I am stoked to be going up the mountain in this crazy build (even though it’s not a timed run), and getting my feet wet on the legendary mountain! Perhaps just warming up for a future run…?”
The 2023 Pikes Peak Hillclimb will be held on Sunday June 25.
Before then Lia will take on both the Oregon Trail Rally (May 19-21) and the Southern Ohio Forest Rally (June 8-10) behind the wheel of a Subaru BRZ in the American Rally Association.
