Employee Spotlight: Trevor Wert, Media Manager

Trevor-Wert

TWERT! This guy is always working away on something here at DirtFish…talk about wearing many hats! You have seen his work via branding, photos, design and implementation of most of the vinyl wraps on the rally school and motorsport fleets, marketing materials, and you’ve possibly even heard from him via our social media channels! Pretty much everything visual that the public sees, he’s had his hands on in one way or another. He’s also had the privilege of driving and writing about some AMAZING old rally cars, and his articles are posted on our website for your enjoyment! Read all about him below:

Where are you from and where did you grow up?

I was originally born in Denver, Colorado, but I claim to have done the majority of my growing up in Steamboat Spring- a ski/ranch town in Northwest Colorado.

How did you get involved in the sport of rally?

Back in the early 2000’s, the Rally America Championship would make an annual stop in Steamboat for the Colorado Cog Rally. After religiously attending the race for multiple years, I began volunteering as a course marshal (this was really to get a better view of the racing with my friends). Following the end of my skiing career, I had the opportunity on the East Coast to get into the sport and actually make it my full-time job. How could I turn that down?

What made you want to work for DirtFish?

I first heard of DirtFish in 2010 when I briefly lived in Tacompton, and it was still “Ultimate Rally Experience.” I wanted to take a class here so bad, but I had to get back to competing and couldn’t afford it at the time. Once I started working in the motorsports industry, I knew a driver who was sponsored by DirtFish, heard about the company all the time, and saw it on an episode of Top Gear. After deciding that I didn’t want to live on the East Coast anymore, I reached out to a friend of mine who worked here and sent in my resume. Now I’m here!

What made you choose DirtFish over any other Company? And, why rally over other motorsports?

Honestly? The brand. Compared to a lot of different companies in motorsports, DirtFish was doing things a little bit different. Instead of the name being the standard [insert name] Racing School or [insert name] Driving Experience, they decided to create a unique name and bold brand. Good branding is something that has always intrigued me.

Why I chose rally- I have been on dirt roads my entire life, the first road I drove on was a dirt road (I think I was 8 or 9 in my dad’s truck). When I found out that there was a type of racing that let the drivers go as fast as possible on those dirt roads, I fell in love.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Find other ways to get my adrenaline fix.

Snowmobiling is one of my absolute favorite things to do- so much power and freedom in one small package. My friends and I like to send it and get a little sketchy every now and then. The other thing that gets my blood pumping is skiing. This is something I have done my entire life and I love a good day in the backcountry ripping fresh lines. I was recently introduced to heliskiing, and now I’ll never the be same. Nothing beats being dropped at the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere and skiing a line that’s 5,000 feet from top to bottom.

I am also really into photography! Check out some of my photos on the gram – @Trevor_Wert

Do you compete in any type of racing? If so, what series do you compete in? What kind of car do you race?

Unfortunately, I don’t. I just ride my snowmobile and ski for fun.

What kind of car do you drive daily?

A matte black Ram 2500 with a Cummins. It’s not the fastest, but it can go anywhere and haul snowmobiles.

What kind of jams do you listen to while cruising to work in the morning?

My taste in music is pretty broad, so it could be country, rap, hip hop, rock or one of the many entertaining morning shows on the radio.

What else should the DirtFish fans know about you?

I’m a total nerd about branding. I find it fascinating how differently companies and individuals value their brand and the strategies each of them has used to grow their business. If you want to see what I mean, take a look at energy drink companies and how they became some of the most recognizable brands on earth. They all got there in very different ways.
