Benjamin Pedersen has waited for this moment his entire life.

Right the way through US Formula 4 and Formula 3 and then into Indy Lights, the DirtFish-backed racer has yearned to be an IndyCar driver.

This weekend, that dream comes true.

Pedersen has signed for the A.J. Foyt Enterprises team and will take on his first-ever season in America’s most popular racing series.

It’s fair to say that the Danish-American driver cannot wait to get going.

“I am very excited for the opening round here in St. Petersburg,” Pedersen told DirtFish.

“It’s my first-ever IndyCar race, first time doing pitstops, the longest race I have ever done in my life so I will get to experience a lot of new things.

“Something I am familiar with though is pushing the car to its limit, which I am really looking forward to doing in qualifying. I feel really confident in the car – historically it has been very strong here.

“I am so ready to get the first race of the year under my belt.”

The Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg is the first of 17 races on this year’s IndyCar schedule. The race starts at 12.20pm Eastern Time on Sunday March 5.
