Boreham. You don’t need me to tell you, do you?

To us it’s not a small village in the south of England. It’s Ford.

Today, Cockermouth and M-Sport’s Dovenby Hall may be the home of Ford’s off-road motorsport programs, but until 2003 Boreham was the home of all of Ford’s efforts.

It’s a name as meaningful as Maranello.

Anytime anybody elected to commission a reimagined Ford Escort RS2000, it would pique our interest. But when it has the name Boreham on it…

Introducing the Boreham Motorworks Ford Escort Mk1 RS. Not just any old restomod: a period-sympathetic, all-new machine with no donor car.

Referred to as a ‘continumod’, Boreham’s Escort is forged from an official brand agreement with Ford Motor Company and built from the ground up using modern materials and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Two engine options are available: a 185PS Twin Cam, or a modern day interpretation revving to 10,000rpm and producing 300PS. And it wouldn’t be a Mk1 if it had power steering or traction control, would it?

Iain Muir, CEO of Boreham Motorworks, is understandably pleased with what has been created.

“Recreating the Ford Escort Mk1 RS for a new generation is not just about building a car; it’s about honoring a legacy that has inspired driving enthusiasts for over half a century,” he said.

“At Boreham Motorworks, we’ve committed ourselves to not only staying true to the essence of the original, but also to bringing it into the modern age with cutting-edge engineering, precision design, and unparalleled craftsmanship.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of this car, from its dynamics to its structure, is meticulously engineered to deliver the purest driving experience possible.

“This is an embodiment of what Boreham stands for – a seamless blend of heritage and innovation. We’re proud to bring the Escort Mk1 RS back to life and thrilled for the driving enthusiasts who will experience its iconic performance.

“We look forward to showing the car to the public and Ford enthusiasts alike in the summer.”

Want one? Me too. But we’re probably out of luck. Only 150 will ever be made, with prices starting at £295,000.

But for that you do get a two-year, 20,000 mile warranty. Production will start in summer, 2025.
