Hoonigan offers first look at Pastrana’s new Gymkhana Subaru

Reigning Nitro Rallycross champion will be back in the video series later this year with a wild wagon

Travis Pastrana will be back behind the wheel of a Subaru for the latest edition of Hoonigan’s Gymkhana series later this year, with a dollop of retro flavor thrown in for good measure.

Not to be confused with Electrikhana – which Ken Block will feature in with an all-electric Audi – Pastrana will once again helm the latest instalment of the main series following his successful debut in late 2020.

This time around, instead of a WRX STI the reigning Nitro Rallycross and American Rally Association champion will be driving a car based on a 1983 GL wagon – although naturally it won’t be any ordinary GL wagon.

We don’t know too much about the car yet (more details are set to follow next month) but what we do know is it’s been built entirely out of carbon fiber and Subaru’s US motorsport partner Vermont SportsCar is behind the build – as it was for the ‘Airslayer STI’ that featured in the 2020 film.

The GL wagon is the latest in a line of bespoke builds for the Gymkhana series, which began last decade with Block driving rally and later rallycross cars from both Subaru and Ford. Block then introduced the ‘Hoonicorn’ Mustang in 2014, which was followed by the Ford GT-powered Hoonitruck and Pastrana’s 862 bhp ‘Airslayer’.

Filming for the 12th edition of the main Gymkhana series will commence later this year.
