Andretti Autosport has announced that it will join forces with United Autosports for its Extreme E effort to create Andretti United Extreme E.
The partnership is an expansion of an already-established relationship between the multiple IndyCar and rallycross title-winning outfit and the Anglo-American sportscar team, which are already working together in the Australian Supercars series with long-time competitor Walkinshaw Racing.
United was founded by Zak Brown, who in his job as team principal of McLaren has also worked with Andretti on a joint Indianapolis 500 entry in 2017.
While Andretti has extensive experience in electric racing, being one of the founding teams in Formula E and BMW’s works partner in the series, the XE partnership will be United’s first foray into the world of electric motorsport.
“We have been looking at getting into electric racing for a while now and this new off-road championship looks fantastic, so I’m pleased we can work with Andretti to make it happen,” said Brown.
“They already have the contacts due to their Formula E entry, but we are working closely together to get up to speed as quickly as possible.
“The creation of the new company gives both teams an equal partnership moving forward in the Extreme E series. We are very much looking forward to starting this new journey for the team.”
Michael Andretti, whose teams have won 33 rallycross events and three FE races, is thrilled to be entering another project with Brown and United.
“I’m really excited to once again partner with Zak, Richard and the United Autosports family,” said the driver-turned-team boss. “We’ve had the opportunity to work together on various programs over the last few years, and this new adventure in XE may be one of the most exciting opportunities to again come together.
“Both organizations have strong experience in diverse areas of motorsport and I’m confident our combined effort will be a contender from the start.”
