The Mike Nagle Regional Rally, organized by the team behind OTR, will be held on May 22 as a round of the ARA Regional series. The National Oregon Trail event has been moved to November 5-7 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nagle is one of the original founders of Portland’s Oregon Trail Rally and remains part of the team to this day. He has held several positions from rally master to stage captain, and continues to devote his spare time to helping rallying in the US.

Oregon Trail event chair Karen Jankowski said “with Mike’s significant contributions, we felt naming this event after him is the perfect way to honor the volunteer spirit he epitomizes.”

Oregon Trail postponed to November

Rally organizers explain the decision to delay this year's OTR to November instead of running it in May

On the running of the event itself, she added: “Although we had to postpone our National event to this fall, some of our existing permits for Klickitat County allow us to put on a one-day Regional event.

“With so many races being canceled last year, teams are eager to get as much seat time as they can. A one-day Regional also gives us a great opportunity to hone the skills of some of our volunteers before the big event in November.

“There are still several details to work out, but we wanted to get the word out now so competitors and volunteers can start planning for the inaugural Mike Nagle Regional Rally.

“We, unfortunately, won’t be able to have spectators, so the best seat in the house will be to volunteer!”

The Mike Nagle Regional Rally becomes the first ARA Regional West event of the season. It will be followed by the Tour de Forest Rally (Washington) and Rally Nevada.
