After two years away, Ken Block returned to the US domestic rallying scene at the 2018 running of Oregon Trail Rally.
We’d become accustomed to seeing him run in Subaru Imprezas, and later Ford Fiestas, on the US stages but two years ago he brought something else. Something rather special.
Fans of ‘90s rallying will remember the Ford Escort RS Cosworth – or the ‘Cossie’ – fondly. Between 1993 and ‘98 it won 10 times in the World Rally Championship in the hands of François Delecour, Miki Biasion, Franco Cunico, Tommi Mäkinen, and of course Carlos Sainz.
So naturally, when the Head Hoonigan In Charge added a Cossie to his fleet of Fast Fords, we all gleefully took note.
Competing in the Open class at Oregon Trail, Block finished third behind Subaru’s David Higgins and the privateer Subaru entry of Jeff Seehorn.
Of course, we know that the Cossie went on to be involved in an accident and horrendous fire at its next outing at the New England Forest Rally. But let’s not remember that tearjerker…
Instead, for your Sunday viewing pleasure, here’s Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino tearing it up on Oak Flat road in a very-much-not-on fire Cossie back in 2018. Enjoy!
