Citroën’s most iconic rally car?

This week's Girardo picture of the week is focused on a subjective debate about an iconic rallying brand

I saw something on Twitter over the weekend. The question was simple, but greatly intriguing.

Which is the most iconic rally car from Citroën Racing?

Logic would dictate that it must be the C4 WRC. Undefeated to the drivers’ title throughout its competition life, it also delivered more World Rally Championship wins for Citroën than any other model.

But then the Xsara WRC was responsible for Citroën’s first ever world title – the 2003 manufacturers’ crown. And its older brother, the Xsara Kit Car, was the brand’s first ever WRC rally winner.

But this is Wednesday’s Girardo & Co. Archive picture of the week feature. It’s not driven by logic or numbers or objective facts – it’s driven by passion and emotion.

That’s why the answer has to be the Saxo (in either its Kit Car or S1600 guise), hands down. Every single day of the week.

This is probably the part where I’m meant to explain why, but I don’t know why. It just does it for me.

Particularly in stunning Tarmac trim, as pictured here.

If you ever find yourself with some time on your hands, get yourself onto Girardo’s archive and enjoy exploring the millions of images spanning all the eras – and not just in the WRC as you can see here.

And if you love what you see, you can purchase the picture for your office wall!

I thoroughly recommend the Saxo. The only thing better than looking at one? Driving one.

Once my shift is over, I’m off to the antique shop to see if there are any genie lamps for sale…
