Oliver Solberg and Elliott Edmondson’s partnership will continue into 2022 after agreeing to contest the World Rally Championship season together.

Both Solberg and Edmondson were critical players in the co-driver carousel that was a major theme of the 2021 WRC season.

Solberg competed with three co-drivers – Aaron Johnston, Seb Marshall, and Craig Drew – before linking up with Edmondson for last month’s Monza Rally season finale.

Edmondson meanwhile began the year working with Gus Greensmith, then had a six-month hiatus before teaming up with Andreas Mikkelsen for one WRC2 and three European Rally Championship events, and later partnered Solberg for Monza where they finished fifth.

Solberg was confirmed to start the Monte Carlo Rally in a Hyundai i20 N Rally1 when the entry list for round one of the 2022 season was published on Friday.

Edmondson was listed alongside him, but Tuesday’s announcement from Solberg confirmed that this is now a permanent partnership.

“I’ve had four co-drivers this year, I think it was about time to choose one!” Solberg told DirtFish.

“Elliott did a fantastic job at Monza, he was really, really good. It was just very nice to get him in the car, we had a fantastic feeling together and we are good friends so I think that’s also just as important.

“He’s very professional and has a lot of passion and I knew he could do a job. He’s just a fantastic guy, really calm, friendly and just nice to have around.

“But fantastic at the job, he’s really, really professional – he’s like Seb Marshall or Phil Mills 2.0.”

Edmondson added: “It’s really exciting to confirm Oliver and I will be continuing together in 2022. Monza was the perfect start to our partnership, with Oliver’s best WRC result.

“It was also great to get in the car together and discover how each other works. Preparation for the new season is already well underway, and we can’t wait to kick off this new WRC era at Rallye Monte-Carlo in January.”

Solberg and Edmondson will contest the full 2022 WRC season but only part of it in a Rally1 car.

They are expected to compete in an i20 N Rally2 on the events where Dani Sordo drives Hyundai’s third entry alongside Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak.
