Vauxhall will support its first rallying program in years as it competes against Opel in the ADAC GSE Rally Cup next year.
Rebranded from the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup to reflect the development of a brand-new car built to eRally5 regulations, the Mokka GSE, the all-electric championship will remain a one-make series, with the Vauxhall Mokka a rebadged version of the homologated Opel.
Boasting 281bhp, the Mokka GSE is more than twice as powerful as the outgoing Corsa Rally Electric which had 136bhp, “promising performance on par with a Rally4 car”.
Vauxhall’s last official rallying involvement was a decade ago when it supported Robert Duggan and Matthias Adielsson in the Junior British Rally Championship, while in 2000 it had a works team of F2 Astra Kit Cars for Mark Higgins and Neil Wearden.
In the 20th century Vauxhall was ever-present with cars like the Chevette HSR, Nova GTE and Astra GSE.
Vauxhall will compete against Opel in the GSE Rally Cup next season
Welshman Ioan Lloyd, runner-up in this year’s Junior European Rally Championship, will drive the Vauxhall Mokka GSE in 2026, with the series champion earning a funded drive in Junior ERC.
Lloyd said: “Vauxhall’s history in motorsport has helped create legends like Colin McRae, and I’m excited to carry that legacy forward. I can’t wait for the new season to begin and to see what the Mokka GSE Rally can do.”
Head of Opel-Vauxhall Motorsport, Jörg Schrott, added: “I’m thrilled to welcome Vauxhall into the ADAC GSE Rally Cup as we look forward to the 2026 season with the new Mokka GSE Rally.
“Our young drivers and their thrilling battles have been crucial to the success of our cup over the past five years, while showcasing the technological maturity of the Corsa Rally Electric. With this championship, we’ve proved that electric mobility is suitable for everyday use and electrifying and reliable for motorsport alike.
“With more than twice the power, the Mokka GSE Rally is sure to provide an exhilarating spectacle, and the addition of Vauxhall and Ioan Lloyd to the championship will provide even stronger competition.”
