Next year’s European Rally Championship has undergone a significant overhaul with two all-new rounds announced in a calendar ratified by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday.

Britain (Rali Ceredigion) returns to a frontline FIA rally calendar for the first time since losing its World Rally Championship round in 2019 and there’s a new event in Poland, the season-closing Rally Silesia. In addition to that, there’s a new-look Rally Hungary on a schedule which offers three gravel and five asphalt events.

The season opens in Hungary before heading for the familiar Spanish island roads of Gran Canaria. One of the most popular events from last year, the Royal Rally of Scandinavia follows with Estonia’s return to the ERC also confirmed for July.

The traditional summer outings in Rome and Czech Republic are followed by the Wales and Poland.

ERC championship manager Iain Campbell said: “We’ve worked hard to deliver a calendar that blends new events with rallies that have, for many years, played a key role in the ongoing success of the ERC.

“We are very pleased with the balance that’s been achieved as it’s important to freshen up the calendar whenever it’s practical and beneficial to do so, without losing out on the opportunity to include more long-standing events.”

Hungary, Canaries, Scandinavia, Estonia, Ceredigion and Silesia will also form the Junior ERC calendar.
