Hyundai has reshuffled its planned driver line-up for Rally Sweden, bringing in Craig Breen in place of Sébastien Loeb for the next World Rally Championship round.
Breen had contested two WRC events with Hyundai last year but was not initially named as part of the team’s 2020 plan – in which Dani Sordo and Loeb were due to share a third car alongside full-season contenders Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak.
On Monday Hyundai announced that Breen would be drafted in for Sweden, where he scored his career-best WRC result so far with second for Citroën in 2018.
Loeb had originally been scheduled to contest six WRC events under his 2020 Hyundai deal.
He had a disappointing start to the campaign in Monte Carlo this weekend, falling from fourth to a distant sixth when a spin was followed by a tire wear dilemma that left him nursing the car through the final stages.
“This has certainly not been the rally we were hoping for,” he said afterwards. “It has been a difficult one all weekend and it seems the planets were not aligned for us.”
