Elfyn Evans was at pains to deny it, but is the early evidence compelling?

This year is far from the first year Evans has had a strong Monte Carlo, but the attacking nature of his drive was noteworhty. He looked far more comfortable to push the Rally1 car – a car he never consistently got on with when it was equipped with a hybrid unit.

Is the car finally where Evans wants it to be now its hybrid-less?

“I’m pretty happy with the car, but in all honesty, I think people automatically think as the hybrid’s out, it’s back to the ’17 car,” Evans told DirtFish.

“That’s clearly not the case because we run the same diffs, geometry, everything that we had last year, and the car actually still feels very familiar to last year. Naturally, there’s some little changes, but it’s definitely not like going back to the ’17 car.”

But a former World Rally Championship team principal isn’t so sure.

Andrea Adamo joins us on SPIN, The Rally Pod to dissect this and all the other major talking points from the 2025 Monte Carlo Rally – including the struggles of Thierry Neuville and Kalle Rovanperä, and who Sébastien Ogier reminds him of.

Plus, Adamo fancies a rematch after winning a bet last year, and makes another with David Evans on who will be this year’s world champion!
