In reality, the Monza Rally was all about two drivers and one team.

While Kalle Rovanperä cruised around like his father’s mother to guarantee the manufacturers’ crown for Toyota, the title fight between Sébastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans resembled an intense heavyweight boxing match, going the full distance.

Ogier vs Evans, at the “Temple of Speed”, was rallying’s equivalent of boxing’s Ali vs Foreman “The rumble in the jungle”, albeit Mohammed Ali didn’t start that fight with a 17-point lead over George Foreman.

The images shown here try to give a flavor of an odd, but spectacular, rally in Lombardy.
