Grégoire Munster has crashed heavily out of Secto Rally Finland on Saturday morning’s first stage.

The M-Sport driver was seventh overall after Friday’s leg, looking forward to getting stuck into the legendary Ouninpohja stage but sadly he won’t get there as he bowed out on Västilä.

Arriving to a left-hand corner far too quickly, Munster first lost the rear which dipped off the road, and that then pitched his Puma Rally1 into a roll.

The car came to rest on its wheels, pointing the wrong way down the stage and was initially blocking the road, forcing Sami Pajari to slow.

He will later get a nominal time, as the stage resumed for next-on-the-road Adrien Fourmaux.

Meanwhile out front, Kalle Rovanperä extended his lead over Elfyn Evans into double figures by winning the stage by 2.2 seconds – despite some pre-stage drama.

“We had a problem on the start-line,” he said, “I don’t know why but three seconds before the start the car was shutting off itself but we were really lucky to start again and start on our own time. That was weird.”
