Ogier and Landais in hospital after road accident

Toyota’s French stars were involved in a head-on crash during Tuesday’s recce for Rally Poland

Sébastien Ogier’s participation in this week’s Rally Poland hangs in the balance following a road accident during the pre-event recce on Tuesday morning.

Ogier and co-driver Vincent Landais were hospitalized after the accident and remain in hospital undergoing checks at the time of writing.

The team is awaiting the results of medical checks before it can confirm whether the eight-time world champion will start the seventh round of the World Rally Championship.

DirtFish understands data from the Toyota GR Yaris recce car is typical of a regular road traffic accident. The impact in the accident was on the co-driver’s side with damage restricted to the car’s right-front corner.

Toyota’s statement reads: “Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais have been taken to hospital for checks following a road traffic collision during reconnaissance for 80 ORLEN Rally Poland, round seven of the 2024 FIA World Rally Championship.

“The incident took place while Ogier and Landais, who compete for Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT in the WRC, were preparing their pacenotes for the Goldap special stage, which forms SS10 and SS14 of the rally this Saturday. Ogier and Landais were driving a road car as is the standard practice for rally reconnaissance.

“The driver of the other vehicle involved, a member of the public, was also taken to hospital for medical checks.”
