Sami Pajari has retired from Friday’s leg of Acropolis Rally Greece with a technical issue.

The young Finn was having an impressive day aboard his Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, running as high as second with just a 0.7s deficit to the lead after the second stage.

Pajari’s pace began to fade a touch as he fell to five after stage five, but he was then sidelined altogether on the road section between SS5 and SS6 with a significant loss of oil.

He told DirtFish: “[We have] some issue. I think it’s just stages when it’s so rough… honestly I have no idea where this is coming, so we will recover the car back to service and we will see.

“We just noticed it here, and let’s say we found out it’s a bit too much. It [the rally] was going quite well, but OK these things happen.”
