Sesks to drive Rally2 in Portugal ahead of WRC outing

Mārtiņš Sesks will start next week's Rally Serras de Fafe, taking on Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo

Mārtiņš Sesks will start the opening round of the Portuguese championship next month in a Ford Fiesta Rally2 as he builds towards his next World Rally Championship outing.

Rally Sweden was the first of a confirmed six-round program for Sesks in a Puma Rally1, where he impressed to finish sixth overall and highest of the M-Sport runners.

Sesks told DirtFish at the conclusion of the event he would “probably” drive “some national rallies in Portugal” ahead of his next WRC event, May’s Rally Portugal.

On Monday it was confirmed he will contest Rally Serras de Fafe next week (March 7-8) with Ralfs Igavenš as his co-driver.

Sesks will compete for Past Racing, which ran him on Rally Ciudad de Granada as preparation for Rally Chile last year.

In a statement, Past Racing said: “Our team’s goal is clear: to provide Mārtiņš with the opportunity to perfect his pace and skills in preparation for his M-Sport season with the Rally1.

“Participation in the stages of Rally Serras de Fafe, also featured in the WRC Rally Portugal, is essential for maintaining and enhancing the necessary competition level.”

Among Sesks’ rivals will be WRC winners Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo, who will drive a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 and Hyundai i20 N Rally2 respectively as part of full-season campaigns.
