Oliver Solberg confessed he needs to change something after crashing on a fourth World Rally Championship event in five starts.
The Toyota driver went off on Friday’s final stage of Acropolis Rally Greece, beaching his GR Yaris Rally1 on the edge of a left hander.
The mistake follows errors on the previous three Tarmac rounds in Croatia, Gran Canaria and Japan.
Explaining what happened, Solberg told DirtFish: “It’s obviously a tight left and from a fast right, and I just got the rear out and got beached over there. Then I tried to drive further but I had so much dust on the window I couldn’t see, and there was a bush there.”
Asked why he wasn’t able to navigate that particular corner, Solberg replied: “Good question why I couldn’t manage. Just too quick I think a little bit.”
Solberg ended his day beached on the side of the road
The Swede had been down in ninth overall after a puncture on the opening stage of the day cost him almost 1m30s. From there, he’d been driving within himself and try and avoid any trouble.
“After that [puncture] the goal was just try to survive and just have the best we could out of the day,” Solberg said. “I’ve been driving slow all day and never really had the rhythm after that puncture.”
Addressing what he needs to do differently going forward after another day-ending mistake, Solberg admitted he didn’t know exactly but clearly something has to change.
“I don’t know what I need to do at the moment,” he said. “Just go again, but it’s been tough now lately that’s for sure. Small things all the time and big consequences. I just need to somehow take away those small mistakes, and apparently I still haven’t found that out.
“I can only focus on what’s going on with me at the moment and unfortuantely this is the things that happen now, it seems like. I try to always be positive, keep going forward and try to find a way and improve and do better, but I don’t know. I need to change something maybe.”
