Solberg penalized five minutes for drifting at Monaco GP hairpin

The 23-year-old was found guilty of exhibition driving after the final podium at the Monte Carlo Rally

Oliver Solberg has been handed a five-minute time penalty at the Monte Carlo Rally for ‘exhibition driving’ at the famous Fairmont hairpin.

On his first World Rally Championship start in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, Solberg had finished sixth in the RC2 class and 13th overall – recovering well after hitting a bank on cold tires on Thursday evening.

But the 23-year-old was later penalized for drifting on the road section after the final podium and before parc fermé.

The penalty does not greatly affect Solberg however, as Monte Carlo was not one of his registered events in WRC2.

That’s in stark contrast to the last time Solberg was found guilty of exhibition driving, when donuts he performed after the flying finish at Portugal’s Lousada superspecial cost him victory to rival Gus Greensmith.
