The fifth special stage of Rally Finland, Lankamaa 2, has been canceled on safety grounds.
Kalle Rovanperä made it through the first split on the stage but less than three minutes in, he immediately slowed as the stage had been red-flagged.
Soon afterwards the stage was canceled completely, meaning the crews will all traverse the forest test at non competitive speeds before heading back to SS6 Harju.
The Rally Finland organizer hasn’t officially explained why the stage was canceled, but a tweet – posted four minutes after the news that SS5 had been canceled- read: “Fans: Respect the marshals and watch the stages from a safe distance.”
Ott Tänak currently leads the rally by 5.4 seconds over Esapekka Lappi.
