The logic behind WRC driver ratings

Colin Clark divides opinion with his scores, prompting a debate from George Donaldson this week

Kalle Rovanperä

Colin Clark’s driver ratings after every World Rally Championship round are always the subject of debate – which is brilliant, because that’s what they’re designed to create.

Our voice of rally is never shy of offering and validating his opinion, but clearly with an opinion-based feature not everybody will agree with him.

Take George Donaldson, for instance.

When planning this week’s edition of DirtFish’s weekly rallying podcast – SPIN, The Rally Pod – the running order was almost signed, sealed and delivered until Donaldson requested one more addition: a debate about Colin’s Monte Carlo scores.

To say Donaldson doesn’t exactly agree with Clark on all of them would be an understatement. But the pair’s debate did allow Clark the opportunity to explain once and for all how his scoring system works.

So, sit back, enjoy the conversation and don’t forget to subscribe to SPIN, The Rally Pod on your chosen podcast provider so that every single new episode lands on your device as soon as we upload it!
