Toyota president and CEO Akio Toyoda revealed Toyota’s all-new GR Yaris Rally2 concept car at Rally Japan on Saturday.
The car, which tested for the first time last month, remains a concept due to Toyota not yet having signed off on it for competition. It is expected the car will not run in the World Rally Championship until 2024.
After Toyoda’s understandably proud moment, he stepped aside and allowed four-time world champion Juha Kankkunen to showcase the car’s potential in public for the first time at the Okazaki street stage on Saturday night.
Kankkunen was joined by fellow four-time champion Tommi Mäkinen, with the former Toyota Gazoo Racing team principal taking the wheel of Toyota’s ground-breaking GR Yaris H2 – a hydrogen-powered car first demonstrated at the Ypres Rally Belgium earlier this year.
