Toyota technical director Tom Fowler has emerged as the latest name to be linked to Hyundai’s list of potential new World Rally Championship team principals.
Hyundai’s talismanic leader Andrea Adamo departed the team earlier this month with Hyundai Motorsport president Scott Noh installed as a temporary team principal.
Sources inside Hyundai have already pointed out that Noh has few ambitions to run the team and the hope is to deliver a replacement for Adamo as soon as possible.
The source told DirtFish discussions were ongoing, adding: “Somebody of Fowler’s experience and technical understanding would be very much of interest.”
Whether Hyundai could lure Fowler away from leading the development of his world championship-winning Yaris is another matter. Fowler endured a testy relationship with Adamo – but worked closely with Hyundai’s technical director Christian Loriaux while they were at M-Sport.
DirtFish has contacted Fowler for comment.
As well as understanding the identity of Hyundai’s new leader, there’s a real desire to understand the timeline towards them landing into position.
When questioned on the timing, one source told DirtFish earlier this week: “Yesterday. That’s when it needed to be done. In fact, a week yesterday.
“It’s almost 10 days already and no movement on this is bad. This is a crucial time for the team and a time when the team needs leadership.”
