Since the World Rally Championship’s return to Africa, Toyota has gone unbeaten. It was so dominant last year that it locked out the first four positions on the leaderboard.

This is no new trend. Throughout the Safari Rally’s glorious history, no manufacturer has come anywhere near Toyota’s record of nine Kenyan wins in the WRC.

Group B, Group A, WRC and now Rally1 – Toyota has conquered the Safari in them all.

But why? Why has Toyota always been so good in Kenya?

In a bonus episode of SPIN, The Rally Pod, join George Donaldson and Luke Barry as Donaldson recounts some epic memories from his time working with the manufacturer in the 1980s and ’90s.

From rigorous tire testing with Björn Waldegård to driving a Group A Celica across the spine of the country, Donaldson has seen it all – and won it all, too! With sensational recall, his passion for this rally is infectious as you’re about to discover.

And his theories as to why Toyota has always done well on the Safari are as enlightening as ever.
