Pontus Tidemand will contest a full campaign in the European Rallycross Championship with Hedstroms Motorsport.
The WRC 2 frontrunner is no stranger to rallycross, having competed in the first four rounds of the 2019 European supercar season in a Volkswagen Beetle for Eklund Motorsport.
He also made seven appearances in the inaugural World Rallycross season back in 2014.
This year, Tidemand will race a Volkswagen Polo alongside Christer Dalmans, with the deal coming together last weekend as he was winning in WRC 2 in México.
“The big problem was actually to really get in touch,” said team boss Peter Hedstrom, who is also set to be behind the wheel this year in Euro RX and RallyX Nordic.
“Pontus was in México with nine hours’ time difference and in the middle of the WRC event, but once we could talk to each other everything got settled in a minute.”
Tidemand, a 12-time WRC 2 class event winner and the category’s 2017 champion, took a best rallycross result of second in Sweden last year, finishing eighth overall despite missing the final two rounds of the season.
He also finished second in the 2014 European round in Belgium on his way to third in that year’s championship standings.
“I am very grateful for Peter’s call in the middle of the rally, I want to drive as much as possible and the Euro RX Championship will make a good addition to my WRC2 campaign,” added Tidemand.
“The first tests are something I am really looking forward to. I am sure that something very special will come out of this collaboration.”
