GCK will field a Lancia Delta Integrale in the 2022 World Rallycross Championship.
The Delta was one of the most successful rally cars ever, winning eight World Rally Championship titles between 1988 and 1992 – five manufacturers’ triumphs and three drivers’ titles with Miki Biasion and Juha Kankkunen.
GCK, which is running under the Unkorrupted banner this season, will design, build and run a bespoke Lancia Delta Evo-e, based upon its previously announced GCK Exclusiv-e retrofit of the iconic machine.
World RX’s premier class is finally switching to an all-electric format in 2022, with every team’s entry based on an electric kit from Kreisel Electric.
Cars will generate 500kW – equivalent to 680bhp – delivered to the twin motors with 880Nm of torque.
GCK has been a pioneer in the field of alternatively-powered motorsport, and is developing a hydrogen car to compete on the 2024 Dakar Rally.
The company will supply electricity to the entire RX1e grid next year, having provided energy to the supporting RX2e category this year.
GCK president Guerlain Chicherit said he is “super excited” to bring the Lancia project to RX.
“We chose the Lancia Delta Integrale because it is a vehicle that made us all dream. It is the rally car par excellence – without doubt the most incredible of its era – and one that remains hugely popular to this day,” Chicherit said.
“It’ll be a busy year for GCK Motorsport, and the whole team is looking forward to taking on this challenge.
“Motorsport is going through a significant change at the moment, with the impact felt across all industries. Playing our part in developing some of this change is what keeps us all motivated every day.”
Arne Dirks, executive director of Rallycross Promoter which runs the series, added: “As a man with his finger firmly on the pulse, Guerlain understands the way the world is going and that in order to advance, you need to adapt, and his future-thinking approach is complemented by a genuine retro passion – as evidenced by GCK’s choice of car for 2022, which is a real masterstroke.
“Having grown up seeing the epic Lancia Delta Integrale conquering rally stages all over the world, I personally cannot wait to witness the Delta Evo-e in action in World Rallycross next season!”
GCK Motorsport is the fourth team to commit to World RX’s new electric era. Kristoffersson Motorsport, ESmotorsport and Münnich Motorsport have all confirmed their entries.
