Marcus Grönholm will make his second rallycross appearance of the year in the Projekt E World Rallycross support series at Nürburgring next month.
Having originally been set to drive at the now-canceled Spa round, Grönholm will drive Ferratum Team’s Ford Fiesta ERX2 in the all-electric category, following from Jānis Baumanis who raced the car in Riga, Latvia. He recently tested the car in Finland.
“I drove a total of three laps, so I’m well trained,” said Grönholm. “I haven’t been the biggest fan of electric cars to be honest, but when I drove this car, inside the cockpit the enthusiasm really surfaced.
“The car behaves very well and is very impressive.”
The two-time World Rally Champion and multiple US and European rallycross race winner made a comeback appearance at RallyX Nordic’s All-Star Magic Weekend at Höljes in July, winning the Legends category in dominant fashion.
“I have said at home that I will no longer drive in races,” Grönholm added. “But, while I’m in this situation where I will race in Belgium, I’m not going to get into any big fights, and this is certainly not a comeback.
“I’m getting involved to feel what these electric cars are like, as rallycross is going in that direction anyway.”
The Projekt E finale will form part of a bumper weekend of action at the German venue, with the World RX, European Supercar, and European Super1600 titles all set to be decided on the same weekend.
