The name Boreham, synonymous with Ford’s rally and race activities for decades, is back – 21 years after Ford closed the Essex facility.

An agreement with Ford Motor Company will allow Boreham Motorworks to build some of the Blue Oval’s most iconic competition machinery, starting with a remastered version of the Group B RS200 and a continuation run of the original Group 5-specification Escort MkI.

Both cars are expected to roll off production lines this year after Ford licensed Boreham Motorworks, a division of British-based DRVN Automotive Group.

Forty years after the RS200 was launched, Boreham Motorworks will build what it describes as “an entirely new, ground-up build of a road-legal Group B-inspired drivers’ car”.

Its race-bred MkI Escort, however, will be the first of a number of “blueprint-accurate, period-sympathetic vehicles with continuation VIN numbers”.

“We are thrilled to embark on this journey with Ford Motor Company and kickstart a series that will redefine and remaster these icons of the past,” said Darren McDermott, executive chairman, DRVN Automotive Group.

“We aim to redefine automotive innovation and push the boundaries in terms of driver engagement and design. Our shared commitment to this incredible project will create an outstanding analog driving experience and leave a lasting legacy for the true petrolhead.”

The cars are set to be built in limited numbers, with customers offered “an exclusive, invitation only membership to The Boreham High Performance Club, for immersing like-minded individuals in spectacular driving experiences globally”.

Boreham plans to extend its range to “at least five further iconic Ford vehicles”.

Will Ford, Ford Performance Motorsports’ general manager, added: “From the first time we met with Boreham Motorworks and the DRVN team, it was clear they had an exciting vision for how to bring some of our most iconic historical nameplates to life for the modern era.

“It will be exciting to see this relationship flourish and to see how Boreham Motorworks brings the vision to life at a time when there is so much passion from enthusiasts for great experiences.”
