Toyota star Elfyn Evans missed last week’s winter test while recovering from a bike accident earlier this month – but the team is confident the Welshman will be back on schedule in time for next month’s pre-Monte Carlo running.
Evans suffered rib injuries in while training in Spain last month. Since returning home, this year’s WRC runner-up has made good progress in his recovery.
Toyota team principal Jari-Matti Latvala told DirtFish: “Things are looking good. Elfyn has seen the doctor and the doctor is positive right now that we are still on schedule with the testing plan.
“We haven’t changed anything for his Monte test. I don’t remember exactly the dates, but it’s still around mid-January.
“He was supposed to be testing last week, but he wasn’t able to make it. It’s OK. Taka [Katsuta] did two days and this test was about giving the drivers a chance to be back in the car in winter conditions ahead of Sweden.
“When we first heard [about the accident] we were concerned, of course, and we started to think to a back-up plan, but once he got back to the UK everything was – and is – looking good.”
