Toyota driver Takamoto Katsuta has talked DirtFish through his day-ending crash at Rally del Paraguay.
Katsuta had been running ninth overall, restricted by a puncture on the very first stage of the rally, before he crashed out on SS7 Yerbatera.
Katsuta told DirtFish: “Every stage is very tricky. Unfortunately, I felt quite OK all the time, not over the limit [then] traight away, something like this.
“The situation was not so easy,” he added. “You wanted to gain the position, you wanted to recover from this morning’s puncture. For sure, I was not trying crazy pushing, but this kind of condition, this kind of new rally, you never know what kind of changes between the first pass and second pass, and unfortunately, one of the corners, something went wrong.”
Katsuta hit a bank with both sides of the car, which was enough to rip a wheel off.
“Speed was not really, really high,” he said. “Let’s say it was fourth gear or something, third gear, fourth gear. So it’s not crazy high speed, but just enough to wheel off because there was quite a big bank.”
