Teemu Suninen admitted he just wants to put Rally Sweden 2020 behind him after a disappointing run to eighth place on the second round of this year’s World Rally Championship.
On a rally where he had been a victory contender in 2019, M-Sport Ford driver Suninen was never on the pace this time around.
“It hasn’t been a good rally for us,” he said.
“We need to analyze the rally well and forget this one and prepare for Mexico to be a stronger driver.”
Suninen’s problems began with a wild moment on the shakedown that only narrowly avoided turning into a large accident.
He said that had spooked him into an over-cautious approach to the first day, which had repercussions for Saturday as it left him starting second on the road and therefore helping clear what snow there was for the cars behind.
“Everything started from shakedown where I had the big moment and on Friday I was taking it a bit careful in some places, lost a few seconds there and I couldn’t take the time back,” Suninen explained.
“And then on Saturday we were having a bad starting position and then the job was even more difficult.”
The disappointing Sweden result followed a Monte Carlo Rally wrecked by early overheating and transmission problems, although Suninen was able to rejoin and salvage ninth there.
