The World Rallycross Championship has issued a provisionally updated calendar for the 2020 season.
After the first three rounds of the season were put on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the true look of the 2020 schedule was uncertain until now.
In the new-look schedule, the season will begin at Holjes in Sweden at the end of August, and conclude at the Nurburgring on the second weekend of December.
October will contain three events in as many weeks, with the series’ second visit to Belgium’s Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps taking place October 3-4. It’s immediately followed by a return to Montalegre in Portugal and then original season opener location Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
France and Abu Dhabi are the only events to keep their original slots – on the first weekend of September and final weekend of October respectively – with Abu Dhabi’s event being extended by a day to allow two championship rounds to be held on the same weekend.
Meanwhile the rounds in Norway and South Africa have been scrapped entirely.
The RX2 support category will feature at every location except for Latvia (Biķernieki, September 18-20), Belgium and Abu Dhabi – which will have no support categories. The all-new Projekt E electric series will feature in Sweden, Latvia, Belgium, and Germany.
For European Rallycross, Supercars will compete in Sweden, France, Latvia, and Belgium, while Super 1600s misses out Belgium but does visit Portugal and Spain.
Despite the raft of changes to the schedule, World RX’s usual restrictions on testing at race locations remains in place.
