Rally Italy is the latest World Rally Championship event to be altered as the FIA and WRC Promoter try to piece together a meaningful second half of the season.
The Alghero-based event will announce a date change on Wednesday, shifting from the end of October to October 8-11.
DirtFish understands Italy’s news will be announced simultaneously with the cancellation of Rally Germany.
The cancellation of Germany was expected on Tuesday, but series officials elected to hold the communication to run both announcements simultaneously.
Moving Italy’s date forward will now place a WRC round in what would have been a six-week gap between Rally Turkey and the WRC’s visit to Sardinia.
Germany’s departure from the championship leaves four events remaining, with the concluding round being Belgium’s maiden WRC appearance with the Ypres Rally (November 19-22).
Preparations for next week’s Rally Estonia – the first WRC action since Rally Mexico in March – continue with the teams starting to arrive in Tartu later this week.
