It was once Coca-Cola. It used to be John Lewis*. But now there’s only one video to look forward to at Christmas. And finally, on Friday, the Girardo & Co film dropped.
The plot’s not normally a complex one. It involves a rally car of a certain provenance and, usually, a tree.
The first film followed Max Girardo collecting the office Christmas tree in a Lancia 037. The following year, he forgot the tree and the presents. Fortunately, the 037 was on hand, along with a Lancia Delta HF Integrale and even a pukka Lancia service barge to bring home the boxes.
Back to the trees in 2018. But the tree was a special one. One from a place very close to the hearts of rally fans… Sweet Lamb forest in mid-Wales. And to collect a tree from there, you need something special. Something built for the job. The Subaru Impreza WRC97 Colin McRae used on the 1997 Safari Rally should do it.
It did it.
The trees were left alone last year, but for 2020, arguably the most special car was pressed into action. Most special because it once belonged to Audi, Hannu Mikkola and Juha Kankkunen. But now, it’s the precious property of DirtFish owner Steve Rimmer.
