Hyundai’s Esapekka Lappi and Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta will both compete on the Kuopio Rally in Finland with Rally1 cars, one week before Rally Sweden.
Testing regulations in this season’s World Rally Championship have been reduced to just 21 days per team, giving drivers less time behind the wheel before events.
As a result, it’s expected that several Rally1 cars will start appearing on national rallies as extra seat-time ahead of WRC events.
Katsuta – who will drive for Toyota Gazoo Racing’s main team for the first time in Sweden – and Hyundai’s new 2023 signing Lappi will therefore both take on the second round of the Finnish Rally Championship.
The February 3-4 event falls one week before Sweden.
