The Mythical Cars Rally (May 24-27) is a new northern Italian event aimed at recreating the emotion of some of the sport’s greatest days through the combination of a competitive rally and a festival atmosphere.
Open to Group A cars from 1994 right through the World Rally Car era to the end of 2021, Mythical Cars Rally will set pulses racing as it takes competitors and fans on a journey through the sport’s golden age.
Based in the beautiful town of Varzi and organized by Automobile Club Pavia, Mythical Cars Rally will bring together the very best elements of rallying.
Multiple world championship-winning team principal Andrea Adamo is one of the driving forces behind the event. Mythical Cars Rally advisor Adamo said: “The focus for Mythical Cars Rally is from the mid-1990s all the way to the end of the World Rally Car – including the incredible ‘plus’ cars from 2017 until 2021.
“The name says it all, when you look back to the history, to the mid-90s, these cars are mythical. Everybody has an incredible memory from a Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD or a Subaru Impreza 555. It’s the noise, the power and the incredible action from guys like Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz from that era.
“Our story starts in this time and builds through the change to World Rally Cars – a period when the sport was at its most popular – all the way to the fastest cars we ever saw.
“Honestly, it’s going to be an amazing event and an amazing journey through time.”
And the Tarmac roads around Varzi? They’re stunning. The route will include 80 kilometers spread across seven stages in four different locations. The competitive action gets underway on the evening of Friday May 26 before a full day of sport through Saturday.
That’s the rally. Varzi will embrace the Mythical Cars Rally festival for almost the whole week.
President of the Automobile Club Pavia Marino Scabini added: “The whole town of Varzi and the region of Lombardy is behind this event. It’s going to be something very special to have these cars coming into the town – but more than that, we’re going to have an incredible atmosphere for the whole of the rally week.
“We will have concerts, music, food, it’s going to be a real festival atmosphere to celebrate the best of the sport through a true golden age.”
